If you’re looking to enhance or improve your facial appearance in Wesley Chapel, your dental team is more than qualified to help with BOTOX® Cosmetic and dermal fillers!

Dr. Luz Hernandez provides non-surgical facial aesthetic procedures which will dramatically improve your appearance. Using in-depth knowledge of facial anatomy and extensive experience treating the muscles responsible for mastication and facial expressions, Dr. Hernandez can help you achieve ideal and natural looking results that still allow for freedom of expression.

Why Your Dental Team Can Provide Facial Aesthetic Treatments

Skilled dentists receive training in the function, anatomy, and musculature of the jaw and face as part of their dental school training. Deciding where to inject Botox® and facial fillers isn’t simply a matter of looking at the surface level of the skin - it’s about understanding the muscles underneath and how they interact with each other, too.

You don’t need to see a dermatologist or plastic surgeon for facial aesthetic treatments when your dentist has received advanced training in treating the muscles of mastication and facial expression. Providing detailed evaluation and consultation, Dr. Luz will focus on any elements of the aging process adversely affecting you, from frown lines, to pursed lips, downturned lines on the corner of the mouth and more, to make sure your facial expressions match the communications you want to impart and the way you feel inside.

Botox works easily by temporarily paralyzing facial muscles and reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles. It can be successfully used to smooth out frown lines between your eyebrows, eliminate crow’s feet, forehead wrinkles, and laugh lines. And, patients who have a high lip line can also use Botox to relax lip muscles and get a lower, more pleasing smile line.

BOTOX® Cosmetic and dermal fillers are a natural complement to any of our cosmetic dentistry treatments, providing a simple yet complete smile

About BOTOX® Cosmetic & XEOMIN®

BOTOX® uses botulinum toxins to relax the muscles, reducing fine lines and wrinkles. Botulinum toxin, a protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, binds to the point where a neuron joins the muscle fiber, preventing the release of a chemical, and blocking muscle contraction. BOTOX® was approved for use by the FDA over 20 years ago for the temporary treatment of moderate to severe lines and wrinkles. In addition to cosmetic use, BOTOX® and XEOMIN® can be used to treat TMJ disorder, teeth grinding, also known as bruxism, and migraine headaches.

How Can Botox Help with Bruxism

Bruxism or teeth grinding is one cause of TMJ. This involuntary behavior, may be both annoying and painful, and it can also wear away your tooth enamel, causing gum sensitivity, chipped teeth, and pain. If you’ve tried other approaches, for example, a custom night guard created by your dentist, but the results haven’t been what you’d hoped for, Botox can be an effective treatment for teeth grinding.

While you may first think about Botox as being used mainly to eliminate wrinkles or plump lips, its muscle relaxing properties can also stop jaw clenching and teeth grinding for an extended period of time. With bruxism, certain muscles may need to be relaxed.

Using Botox for teeth grinding involves the injection of a small amount into the muscles that are responsible for jaw movement, such as the masseter muscle, responsible for chewing. Botox can also be injected into the frontalis and temporalis muscles. It works by reducing clenching, which then helps to relieve any accompanying tension and aches. Botox provides lasting help for between 3 and 6 months.

Are There Any Side Effects?

Used carefully for pain relief or for cosmetic purposes and administered by a skilled dental professional like Dr. Hernandez, there are no side effects for Botox treatment for bruxism. However, you could find a few short-term effects such as pain, swelling or bruising at the injection site, headache or symptoms that are flu-like, eye dryness or tearing, or occasionally some eyelid or smile drooping, all of which are temporary.

But naturally, you’ll want to discuss options and details for treatment with your dental team.
